Welcome to the Albany Institute of History & Art. Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art is the oldest museum in New York State, beginning as the Society for the Promotion of Agriculture, Arts, and Manufactures. The museum’s collections number over 35,000 objects and include paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, silver, glass, cast iron stoves, textiles, clothing, and historical artifacts. Most objects in the collection were made or owned in the Albany area or Upper Hudson Valley of New York State. This audio tour will provide more information about some of the objects currently on display in the museum’s exhibitions.
